Join the SPF Board

The AAUW CA SPF Nominating Committee seeks applicants for appointment to the AAUW CA SPF Board of Directors.  Each year, the SPF Board appoints members to fill board vacancies.   AAUW CA members are encouraged to apply if they have any of the desired skill areas listed below in “Qualifications.”

Overview of AAUW CA SPF:

AAUW CA SPF was founded in 2001 to receive and distribute contributions from individuals, corporations, and the AAUW CA for programs and projects that further education and equity for all women and girls in the communities served by AAUW CA branches.  It was formed as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit and nonpartisan corporation under California Nonprofit Public Benefit Corporation Law.

Projects served by AAUW CA SPF include Tech Trek, Speech Trek, other state projects, and approved branch projects and local scholarships.

The primary function of the AAUW CA SPF Board of Directors is to oversee the operations of the AAUW CA SPF to meet all legal and fiduciary obligations.  The Board of Directors is comprised of a minimum of seven and no more than nine appointed directors.

General Qualifications:

Any AAUW CA member may be appointed a director, except for members of the AAUW (National) Board of Directors, members of the AAUW CA Board of Directors or the director or treasurer of a project being served by the AAUW CA SPF.

Time Commitment:

SPF Directors participate in 2-3 “in person” meetings per fiscal year and additional meetings via conference call. They participate in email voting and committee work as determined by the Board of Directors. All Directors are expected to attend and participate in all scheduled Board meetings.

 Application Process:

Applications to fill director vacancies are due to the Nominating Committee (spf-ca.nominating@aauw.net) by October 1 of each year for appointment to a two-year term beginning January 1 and ending December 31 of the following year.

If a director leaves before the end of her/his term, applications to fill the unfinished term are accepted until the vacancy is filled.
